An art medium with infinite possibilities…
Penny at Possums Run Studio
has been working with stained glass
& glass art techniques for well over a decade.
Throughout the years, Penny has created and maintained a market-store; designed numerous bespoke commissions and provided expert design advice through teaching educational workshops; endowing this time-honoured craft onto eager students.
When it comes to Commissions,
Possums Run Studio creates every piece with a personal touch.
Whether it’s a small gift, a large window or a sculpture to suit an established home, Penny will design and tailor the piece to your requirements and your budget.
To make the commissioning process even easier, we’ve listed some of the many questions typically asked of us below:
-
Reach Out!
Usually however, it’s a good idea to reach out with an idea of what you want, whether it be an ornamental gift, a bespoke window pane, a large panel or an intricate restoration, we’re able to work with you from the outset.
-
We usually recommend that we discuss the commission piece either over the phone, or with an introductory visit to the studio.
Our early discussions will consist of conversations about your preferred design style, colours and themes, as well as any issues you may encounter with lighting, location or other constraints.
It is at this point that we can also discuss a site visit to measure the location of the piece and discuss options for installation.
-
Working out your budget in advance can help us to determine which design styles are possible for your piece.
We’ve listed some of the other primary factors to consider below:
Materials - The cost of materials can vary greatly depending on the quality / age of the glass, and the amount needed for the project. High-quality stained glass can be more expensive than regular glass, and additional materials such as lead or copper foil may also be required.
Design - The complexity or intricacy of the design can impact the cost of the project, as more intricate designs may require more time and skill to execute.
Size - The size of the stained glass panels and overall piece can also impact the cost. Larger pieces will require more glass and become more difficult to work with, requiring more time.
-
After our initial consultation, and by agreement through a signed contract, Possumsrun will issue an invoice for an initial 30% deposit for the work.
Penny will then provide updates on your project throughout the process, keeping you informed and engaged until it is complete. -
Some foresight is necessary when planning pieces as gifts, as bespoke glass art does take time. That being said, urgency is understood, so it is best to inform us when you will need the work completed.
The deposit of 30% is required prior to the commencement of any commission.
If you wish to cancel the order after this, you will forfeit this deposit, as unfortunately, we’ve yet to figure out how to un-cut glass.
